Description

SEAJET 117 Multipurpose Epoxy Primer – two-component epoxy primer Universal primer for GRP, steel and aluminium – above and below the waterline, with preventive osmosis protection SEAJET 117 is a high-performance two-component epoxy primer that forms the basis of almost every SEAJET coating system. It provides excellent adhesion, lasting corrosion protection for metals and, when applied in several coats, effective preventive osmosis protection on glass-fibre hulls. It is used below the waterline as a base for antifouling and above the waterline as a base for two-component topcoats. Its versatility makes it indispensable both for new builds and for refitting older boats. Advantages Universal – for GRP, steel, aluminium and wood Above and below the waterline Preventive osmosis protection – with 3–4 coats on GRP Excellent corrosion protection for steel and aluminium Outstanding adhesion and a tough, durable film Apply antifouling directly onto the still-tacky coat – no sanding Two colours to make it easier to check even coverage between coats Choice of colour Silver grey – recommended below the waterline (base for antifouling) White – recommended above the waterline (base for topcoats) Both colours have the same properties and can be alternated between coats, making it easier to check whether the surface is fully covered. Technical data Colours: silver grey, white Pack sizes: 0.75 l / 2.5 l / 5 l / 20 l (components A + B) Mixing ratio: 68 : 32 (by volume) – base : hardener Pot life: approx. 10 hours at 20 °C Coverage: approx. 10 m²/l per coat at 50 µm (theoretical) Film thickness: 100 µm wet / 50 µm dry per coat Application: brush, roller; spraying for professional use only Thinner: SEAJET Thinner E (0–5 %) Application temperature: at least 5 °C Shelf life: at least 3 years at 20 °C Drying times At 10 °C: Touch dry: 2 hours Fully dry: 24 hours Recoat with SEAJET 117: at least 18 hours Maximum recoat interval: unlimited At 20 °C: Touch dry: approx. 1 hour Fully dry: 12 hours Recoat with SEAJET 117: at least 8 hours Maximum recoat interval: unlimited Apply antifouling onto the last coat of SEAJET 117 while it is still slightly tacky – within 48 hours at the latest. If this time is exceeded, lightly sand the surface. Recommended number of coats GRP – as a base for antifouling: 1 coat GRP – preventive osmosis protection: 3–4 coats (total of at least 180 µm dry film) Steel and metal keels: 2–4 coats (total of at least 225 µm dry film) Aluminium: 1 coat of SEAJET 017 Epoxy Bonding Primer + 2–4 coats of SEAJET 117 Directions for use 1. The surface must be clean, dry and free of grease, wax and salt. Degrease and sand GRP (P80–P120); grit-blast metals or sand them thoroughly back to bright metal. Remove dust. 2. Stir component A well, add component B in the specified ratio and mix thoroughly again. 3. Apply in even coats. Alternate silver grey and white to make checking easier. 4. Within 48 hours, apply antifouling (below the waterline) or a topcoat (above the waterline) onto the last, still slightly tacky coat. Tip Do not apply at temperatures below 5 °C, in high humidity or onto a damp substrate – the substrate temperature should be at least 3 °C above the dew point. Mix only as much as you will use within the pot life.
