SEAJET 015 UNDERWATER PRIMER
SEAJET 015 Underwater Primer One-component primer and barrier coat for the underwater hull SEAJET 015 Underwater Primer is a fast-drying primer based on a special acrylic resin, designed for preparing the underwater hull before applying antifouling. It is used as a barrier coat over unknown or incompatible antifoulings and over Teflon (PTFE) antifoulings, to which new coatings otherwise adhere poorly. It forms a tough yet flexible protective film that stands up well to seawater. Advantages Barrier coat between incompatible coatings – the solution when you don't know which antifouling was applied before Suitable over Teflon (PTFE) antifoulings Excellent adhesion to existing antifouling and to subsequent coats Fast drying – touch dry in 15–40 minutes Seawater-resistant – for salt, brackish and fresh water Compatible with all SEAJET antifoulings One-component – no mixing with a hardener Application area Underwater hulls made of GRP (fibreglass), polyester, wood and steel. On aluminium, an epoxy primer must be applied first. Suitable for boats with speeds of up to 40 knots. Technical data Colour: silver grey Pack sizes: 0.75 l / 2.5 l / 5 l / 20 l Coverage: approx. 7.5 m²/l (theoretical) Dry film thickness: approx. 40 µm per coat Drying: touch dry in 15–40 min, fully dry in 1.5–4 h (depending on temperature and coat thickness) Application: brush, roller or airless spraying Thinner: SEAJET Thinner A Shelf life: at least 3 years at 20 °C Recommended number of coats GRP / polyester: 1 coat (as a barrier coat over existing antifouling) Wood and steel: 3–4 coats Aluminium: first an epoxy primer (e.g. SEAJET 117), then SEAJET 015 Directions for use The surface must be clean, dry and free of grease, wax, salt and fouling. The existing coating must be intact and well bonded to the substrate – remove any flaking areas, lightly sand the surface and remove the dust. Stir the paint thoroughly before use. Apply in even coats by brush or roller. Thin with SEAJET Thinner A if necessary. Allow each coat to dry before applying the next. Once dry, apply the SEAJET antifouling of your choice. Tip Do not apply at low temperatures, in high humidity or onto a damp substrate. Drying times are longer at lower temperatures and with thicker coats. For small touch-ups and hard-to-reach areas, SEAJET 015 is also available as a spray (400 ml).
