Gelshield 200 is a fast-drying, easy-to-use epoxy primer that protects fibreglass against osmosis. It can be applied at temperatures as low as 5 °C, and its fast drying allows several coats to be applied in a single day. Fast-drying epoxy primer for osmosis protection International Gelshield 200 is a two-component epoxy primer developed specifically to protect polyester (GRP) boats against osmosis. It acts as an effective barrier against moisture penetrating the laminate and helps prevent osmotic damage, which can cause blistering and deterioration of the hull. The coating stands out for its fast drying and easy application, allowing several coats to be applied in one day. It can be used at temperatures from as low as 5 °C, making it suitable for a range of weather conditions and extended maintenance seasons. Gelshield 200 forms a durable epoxy protective layer with very good water resistance. For full osmosis protection, the manufacturer recommends a five-coat system giving a total of approximately 250 microns of dry film. The coating is widely used on new boats as a preventive measure and on older boats as additional protection against moisture ingress. It is available in green and grey, making it easier to check that each coat has been applied evenly. Once cured, it provides an excellent base for subsequent coatings and antifouling systems.
